St. Martin's Pastoral Council Guidelines:

Article I: The Pastoral Council at Saint Martin of Tours parish functions as a pastoral team with the following purposes:

Section 1: To provide positive leadership while creating a spirit of trust with the various ministries in the parish and its people; to promote constructive dialogue and encourage participation of all parishioners in the ministries of the parish.
Section 2: To evaluate the spiritual and temporal needs of the parish, setting goals and priorities in meeting those needs.
Section 3: To form decisions on policies based on needs after consultation with the appropriate commission and the staff as needed and to recommend them to the pastor.
Section 4: To analyze and make all decisions in a prayerful manner with an openness to learn, to be inspired, and to share

Pastoral Council members serve for a term of three years and may no serve more than two consecutive terms.

Canon Law

According to Canon Law #536, the role of the Pastoral Council is as follows:

#1. After the diocesan bishop has listened to the presbyterial council and if he judges it opportune, a pastoral council is to be established in each parish; the pastor presides over it, and through it the Christian faithful, along with those those who share in the pastoral care of the parish in virtue of their office, give their help in fostering pastoral activity.

#2. This pastoral council possesses a consultative vote only and is governed by norms determined by the diocesan bishop.

Pastoral Council Events

"SHARE YOUR CLOAK" DRIVE cloak drive

Each year, as the Feast of St. Martin of Tours (November 11th) approaches, we prepare for our annual "Share Your Cloak" drive, when we invite parishioners to bring in warm jackets, blankets and sleeping bags for the homeless.

Just as Martin of Tours shared his cloak with a beggar who, in a dream was revealed to be Christ, our parishioners share their blessings with those in need.

This year's drive was very successful, thanks to the efforts of the Girl Scouts, who helped to prepare, collect, pack and distribute the items. We are also grateful to the ongoing generosity of our parishioners who support the Cloak Drive.

WELCOME MASS AND DINNER
Once or twice a year, we have a special Welcome Mass and Dinner, to welcome all those who have recently registered as parishioners in our parish. We bless the new parishioners at the Mass, followed by a dinner with the Parish Staff and Pastoral Council. This is a great way for everyone to get to know one another. Watch the bulletin for information about the scheduling of our next Welcome Mass and Dinner.

The Pastoral Council is commited to creating an environment of welcome for all who come to our parish.

RECEPTION FOR THE NEWLY BAPTIZED AT THE EASTER VIGIL

The Pastoral Council also helps to welcome our newly initiated members by sponsoring the reception after the Easter Vigil each year. This year's Vigil will be on Saturday, March 22nd and will begin at 8:00 or 8:30 p.m. For Catholics, the Easter Vigil is the highpoint of the Liturgical Year.

Parish Demographic Data

Our parishioners number about 2200 households, however our parish boundaries encompass many more. Information on the demographics within our parish can be found by opening the following pdf files:MAP

This information was compiled from the census and other data by the Percept Group, Inc. for each parish in our diocese to help them analyze and plan for present and future needs.
