A Sense of the Season
The season of Lent is a time when we prepare ourselves for the celebration of Easter, a time of deeper reflection on the Paschal Mystery, that is, Christ's death and resurrection.
For the catechumens, it is the time when they prepare to celebrate the sacraments of initiation -- baptism, confirmation and Eucharist -- at the Easter Vigil.
For the community, it is a time when we journey with them, as we remember our own baptismal commitment, and when we undertake (through penitential practices) to renew our faith.
This year, our gathering song at all our masses during Lent is "Transfigure Us, O Lord" which calls us all to conversion during this penitention season.
Our focus this Lent is to "Live simply, the others may simply live." In our Lenten series, Lent 4.5, parishioners will be learning about Christian Simplicity. As we attempt to simplify our lives and reduce our consumption, we also look to Operation Rice Bowl, which calls us to pray, fast, learn and give. As we learn about our brothers and sisters in the developing world who lack the basic necessities of life, we are moved to give to those who don't have adequate food, health care, educational opportunities, etc.
Through these many opportunities for prayer and outreach, may this Lenten season be time of renewed faith for all of us.
