FIRST EUCHARIST CELEBRATIONS On the weekend of May 3rd and 4th, the children of our parish will be celebrating their First Holy Communion in the Eucharist at most of the Sunday Masses. It is our tradition at St. Martin's to have them celebrate this Sacrament of Initiation in the midst of the community (rather than at a special separate Mass) because it is a time of joy for the entire parish.

ADULT CONFIRMATION On Sunday afternoon, May 11th, three parishioners from St. Martin's Parish will be confirmed at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cathedral Basilica in downtown San Jose.

  • John Lupo
  • Kevin Macall
  • Brian O'Leary

There will be a Rite of Sending for them at the 10 a.m. Mass on that day as we pray for them and show our support as they go forth to celebrate this Sacrament of Initiation.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION Bishop Patrick McGrath has granted permission for our parish to modify the ages when the Sacrament of Confirmation can be conferred upon the youth of our parish.

To find out more, you can attend any of the upcoming orientation sessions:

  • Wednesday, May 21, at 3:30 or 7:30 p.m. in the Church
  • Sunday, June 1, at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Building

Each orientation should last about an hour and should be attended by potential candidates in 6th grade through High School along with their parents. Interested parishioners, including already confirmed youth, are welcome also.

For more information, you can call the Catechetical Office at 289-9608 or email Liz Schoenwetter.

PARISH FAITH FORMATION The next Parish Faith Formation is scheduled for Sunday, June 1st at 11 a.m. in the Meeting Room with Leo Keegan.

"HOLY HOUR" Join us in the Chapel for Evening Prayer, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction on the First Friday of every month (May 2nd) from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

FOOD BOX SORTING AND PACKING

Parishioners are invited to bring food whenever they come to church and place it in the barrels in the entryways. This food is then sorted by volunteers and prepared for distribution.

On the third Friday of each month (May 16th), we gather in the Gym to sort and pack Food Boxes for those in need. We begin at 6:30 p.m. and it takes about an hour to pack all the boxes. All ages are welcome to join us for this worthwhile outreach project.

MIND, BODY, SPIRIT Mind, Body, Spirit is a support group for frail seniors held on the 2nd Friday of each month. This month's group will be on Friday, May 9th, from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. in the Community Building.

Pastoral care ministers provide transportation to the parish and participate in a variety of activities including health education, a spiritual component, food and socializing.

If you would like to participate or know of someone who would benefit from this gathering, please call the Pastoral Services Office at 289-9617.

SCRIPTURE STUDY Little Rock Scripture Study, on the Book of Exodus, continues through May on Monday evenings, from 7:00 - 8:45 p.m., and Tuesday mornings, from 9:30 - 11:15 a.m.

FAIR TRADE SALES The Peace and Justice Commission will be outside after the morning masses on the second Sunday of the month, May 11th, (Mother's Day) selling Fair Trade coffee, tea and cocoa.

Purchasing these Fair Trade products helps small farmers throughout the world receive fair wages for their labor. You might think that these items will be more expensive than those found in stores, however they are very competively priced.

Treat your mother to great coffee for a great cause!
